A clear and unmistakable sign, a commitment to peace, and to art in the here and now, is being made by the Hofkirche in collaboration with the Volkskunstmuseum in Innsbruck, Tyrol. The large-scale yet sleek metal installation “PEACE light” — an art intervention by Peter Noever is positioned right at the entrance of this impressive and unique setting, leading directly to the tomb of Emperor Maximilian I. “PEACE light” is also a kind of instrument, an interactive platform that enables a reflection on both the past and the present, potentially inspiring courage or evoking the words of the pop poet, Patti Smith: “People have the power …”
In fact, each one of us can contribute to a moment of reflection by illuminating a “peace lightbulb” on this interactive platform, spreading an atmosphere of peace within this very special church, which for centuries has been shaped by a unique Gesamtkunstwerk.
The starting point of this temporary intervention in Innsbruck are individual manifestos by 28 significant artists, specially created for Peter Noever’s exhibition “Peace Now ! The Artist’s Voice”. These manifestos, in the form of posters, are displayed by the Volkskunstmuseum in the cloister of the former Franciscan monastery. Great international interest was drawn after first shown in the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl, Salzkammergut 2024, Austria.
